Overall this was a very positive weekend for us. We must thank Team Europe Suzuki for the great opportunity to ride this round of the WSBK Super Stock championship. We would also like to offer a huge thank you for all the effort put in from everyone on the team.
For us this Misano weekend was all about getting faster lap times. Race pace is always a different beast but we need to find time to get us up the grid. We stared the weekend 5.5 seconds of the leaders in free practice with a 1.43.1 which had us in 33rd place. For FP2 we made a few small changes and our understanding of the feel of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 improved considerably. This resulted in a 2 second improvement putting us into 28th position. Not great, but we were moving the right direction.
Through Free Practice 3 we started really feeling the GSX‐R1000 and we posted a lap time of 1.40.3 and we were up to P23.
We felt pretty confident for qualifying and we were aiming to get in to the top 16. This didn’t quite pan out as we has expect as the quali was red flagged with 6 minutes to go, due to light rain, so we had to settle for P21. Again, starting from that deep in the field we knew it wasn’t going to be easy to move up. We did have confidence in our setup and knew that we would have good race pace.
We had a good start and we managed to leap from P21 to 16th position in the first lap. The next 4 laps saw us moving up to 13th and looking for 12th. We really hoping for a top 12 but after ten laps we dropped off the pace slightly and we were passed pushing us back to 14th. We managed to find a good rhythm again picking up the pace as the tire was getting used up. We finally finished the Misano round in 14th position and were only 1.6 seconds slower than the leader and ran laps in the 1:38.7s a marked improvement from the beginning of the weekend. We showed that both the Suzuki and Mcflash have the pace. We were very happy with the progress and again offer a huge thanks to the team and to our personal sponsors and fans supporting us.
