Jerez is definitely one of my favorite tracks, so coming into this round with a much better understanding of the Suzuki had myself and the team hoping for a top 10.
From start of free practice 1 on Friday we had uncovered a few technical issues. By free practice 3 on Saturday morning we had seemed to have got the bike sorted. It was working the way we wanted and I really had a good feeling that we were in a position for a strong qualifying.
Qualifying was at 17h00 and by then it was extremely hot and windy. The wind was a bit of an issue but it was the same for everyone. For us though the higher temperature had more of an adverse effect. The high heat made it a struggle to get everything out of the bike.
We ended up qualifying 21st. This was a huge disappointment for us. The Team Suzuki Europe boys worked really hard to make some improvements. They worked through the night to give us a fighting chance in the race. In morning warm up we seemed to be heading in the right direction.
The race was a struggle from start to finish as soon as I made a few passes I began struggling with front end grip and the feeling from there on was just a battle to stay on the bike. Finishing 19th definitely does not reflect the effort put in by everyone. Thank you to Team Suzuki Europe. Together we will make a huge leap forward for Magny Cours.
