This past weekend saw some pretty epic racing at the SA National in my home town. The last time I raced an SA National was 2012. As I am not in the title fight due to overseas commitment I competed in the Super M class. This was really cool. SuperM started behind the Super Gp class so I was stoked on the idea of working my way through the field. I was in pole and set the fastest ever lap around Killarney.
Lap record of 1.10.7 in qualifying.
Even so, because of SuperM class rule, I was placed 13th on the grid. Like I said it was a really cool opportunity to fight my way through the field. In Race 1 I got a shocker of a start. I lost 1 or 2 places off the start. I let the race settle in for the first few laps and just watched what was happening whilst meticulously chipping my way through the field. I was passing about one rider per lap and I had some great battles with the local lads as they all put up a hard fight. By lap 12 I had hit the sharp end of overall race and I took the win. It was great to win in front of my home crowd and I am super appreciative of all the awesome support.
I was really pumped for some more after the excitement of race 1. I got a slightly better start and got into the lead bunch a lot quicker than race 1. I did a bit more of the same. Just followed carefully not getting into trouble and picking them off 1 at a time. By the middle of the 15lap race I had hit the lead. On one or two occasions someone showed me a wheel but no solid moves came from behind. I was happy to control the race from the front and set the pace. I broke the race lap record as well with a lap of
And ended the last lap of the race on a 1.11.4. I was really happy with the consistent race pace and I couldn’t have be happier to take a double win and a set a new lap record in front of my home crowd on my home track at a national event!
I left this weekend with some solid bike fitness and a bit of boost of confidence. I think that I’m at the best I could be before heading back to UK. I am ready to take on the challenge on the Bsb Superbike. We have a 2 day test at Snetterton with the www.morelloraceteam.com/bsb.html superbike. It will be perfect to get set up and dialed in. And an opportunity to learn a new track before the race on the 19th June.
Huge thank you to everyone involved with the weekend would be possible without your help and support.
