My first British Superbike race is done and dusted. It was a huge wake up call and quite a steep learning curve. Firstly, the field is full of top riders and strong teams (I do feel I am ready to take them on though). Secondly the Oultan park results did not reflect on the effort that we put in.
We started the race weekend on the back foot. After being involved in a crash during Wednesday’s testing we had problems develop with the bike that just seemed to snowball. Free practice 1 saw us having a few more technical problems that left us having to play catch up. FP2 was wet so this didn’t help us iron out our dry problems. Fp3 was wet to start and then started to dry but also didn’t allow us enough time to solve our problems. As a result we did not make it in to top 30 to go in to Qualifying. Not making qualifying was a huge disappointment for me. We made some changes to the bike that worked in morning warm up. We were going in the right direction, but still a day behind due to those problems from earlier in the week. We did all we could in race one but sadly retired due to another technical problem. Race 2 was good. To finally get a race under my belt and run out the full race distance after this past week felt great. We finished 25th which is by no means where we want to be but we will take it. We a lot learnt from this race weekend and built a strong understanding of what is needed to be done for the next round.
The Snetterton test will be 26th and 27th. We have a lot of things planned to test and work through. We look forward to getting closer to the front end of the field where I believe we belong.
Have to say a bigger thank you to all my personal sponsors for sticking by my side. Thanks to Stunt SA, SBR South AFrica, Arai, RST LEATHERS, Mackay Plant services
