I’m happy to finally say that we are back where we belong. It has been a long road back to the podium since taking a double podium at the opening round. Since then I had suffered multiple injuries due to a motocross training accident and

that took months to fully recover from and get back to fighting fitness and strength. From round two all the way to till round six it had been an uphill struggle trying to learn the BMW ELECTRONIC package and at the same time trying to heal myself 100%. I must thank my Doctor for doing a great job on my arm and after my last surgery I finally am back to full fitness and strength.

Coming into this round at Phakisa I was on an all-time high. We had, over the last few weeks, made solid improvements in our understanding of how to get the most out of the BMW S1000RR in a way that suits my riding style. After the last round at Dezzi raceway where we took two P4’s we felt the BMW would work great around the fast flowing corners at the Phakisa National – it feels more like a European style track.
Race weekend
Race 1
At Phakisa I managed to Qualify P5 for both heats. In race 1 I got a good start, staying in the lead group, after lap 2 the front 3 had made a small break and I found myself between two R1s. After 9 laps I managed to get through hoping to close the gap to the front group. I put my head down and pushed getting up to P3. With 2 laps to go I found myself hanging on with no grip left, Mike White managed to get past and I finished P4. We knew we had some work to do for race 2 to stay in a podium position.
Race 2
In race 2 I started in P5 again and got the best start I’ve had on the BMW all year. I launched to 4th and 5 laps in I had been trying everything to get past AJ Venter – not an easy task. Once I got past him I put my head down to close the gap to the leaders. On the last lap I got close but not close enough. After 15laps I got to 0.5 to 2nd.

I’m really happy with the race pace setting my fastest lap at 1.37.9 and my slowest 1.38.4 being able to do 6, 1.37.9 in the race shows the ability of the RPM Center S1000RR to do consistent lap times. Overall I am really happy and we have made a huge step forward to finally be back on the podium. A huge thank you to all the team sponsors.
